FAC-OPS-03 · Housekeeping: take and complete a bed-turnaround task

After a patient is discharged, the Housekeeping worker claims the cleaning task for that bed, starts the work, records what was done and completes it. The bed then returns to Available.

Why this matters

Discharge starts the bed turnaround automatically. Housekeeping records the work that makes the bed ready for the next patient; the completion note stays with the task for review.

Before you start

  • Housekeeping: housekeeping@demo-clinic.test / Verabase-2026.
  • A discharged patient's bed is Cleaning, with a Bed turnaround task on the worklist. FAC-IPD-01 creates this task during its discharge journey.

Steps

1. Take the task

Open Inpatient → Housekeeping → Worklist. Find the Bed turnaround task for the cleaning bed and choose Take task. The task becomes Assigned to you.

Housekeeping takes the bed-turnaround task

Choose Start when you begin cleaning. The task becomes In progress. Complete stays disabled until you enter a completion note.

2. Record the cleaning and complete the task

Enter a short note describing the work, such as surfaces disinfected and linen changed, then choose Complete. The worklist shows Completed, who completed it and the saved completion note.

Completed task and retained cleaning note

The bed returns to Available and can be allocated to the next admission.

You're done when…

  • [ ] The Housekeeping account can view and take the bed-turnaround task without Administration access.
  • [ ] The task moves from Requested to Assigned, In progress and Completed.
  • [ ] Completion requires a note, and the completed worklist row retains that note and your name.
  • [ ] The bed is Available after the task is completed.

Practice task

On a fresh demo, complete a bed-turnaround task created by a discharge. Check: the task shows Completed with your name and note, and the bed board shows Available.
